I dropped the ball on this one, but lucky for you – Sons and Daughters‘ EP, Brokenness Aside, has already released. The tension is over before it began. I’m gonna post a review anyone because it’s fantastic.

It’s fantastic.

If you haven’t heard, and you didn’t set an alarm for midnight on May 10 so you could wake up and download Brokenness Aside – I won’t tell. Go do it now and we’ll all pretend that neither of us left off our responsibilities.

Sons and Daughters is David Leonard and Leslie Jordan. They’re both worship leaders on staff at Journey Church in Franklin, Tennessee, who started writing music together for their congregation.

I love albums that start that way.

The EP is six, hauntingly beautiful pieces. The album opens with a short, simple chorus:

“This is a call to all the dead and disappointed,
The ones who feel like they are done.
This is a word to all the ones who feel forgotten
That you are not.”

It closes with an understated string section and a rousing,

“Glory, glory, hallelujah, Jesus, You are good.”

It’s rare that I can listen to the close of the EP without stopping my work to put my forehead on the desk for a moment … even if it’s the sixth or seventh time I’ve been through the album that day. Brokenness Aside is usually the last thing I listen to all day, because once I play through it I have a hard time clicking on anything else in my iTunes library.
